Facebook and other social media sites are mostly free for everyone to use. PLAY
But a new social media site promises to limit those who can join to people who are rich. PLAY
The site is called Netropolitan. Users must pay $9000 to join. PLAY
This includes a $6000 entry fee and $3000 for a yearly membership. PLAY
James Touchi-Peters is the founder of Netropolitan. He is a music composer and orchestra conductor from the eastern American state of New York. PLAY
He says he believes there is a need for his service. PLAY
He says he had trouble finding people like him on social media sites. PLAY
He says Netropolitan is a place where rich people can talk about what he calls “the finer thing in life.” PLAY
In his words,“ Netropolitan is an online country club focused on connecting members around the world.” PLAY
He says it is “for people with more money than time.” PLAY
Unlike Facebook, everything on Netropolitan is private. PLAY
The site is not included-or indexed-by search engines like Google or Bing. PLAY
Non-members can only see the log-in screen when they visit the site. PLAY
Information to and from the site is protected, or encrypted. PLAY
This gives members even more privacy. PLAY
Netropolitan does not have any advertising. PLAY
It will employ observers to prevent bad behavior. PLAY
Member must be over 21 years of age. PLAY
They also must use their real names and addresses to register. PLAY
Once registered, member can create groups and join discussions on the site. PLAY
Mr. Touchi-Peters has not said how many members the site has. PLAY
He has also promised never to release the identity of members to protect their privacy. PLAY
